Copyright and rights

Original work and source material are credited separately.

This page explains reuse of site content and how to report a rights concern.

Original site content

Unless a page states otherwise, original articles, editorial illustrations, information graphics, page design and curated compilations are protected by their applicable rights. They may not be republished in full, sold, scraped at scale or presented as another publisher’s work without permission.

Quotation and linking

Brief quotations for criticism, scholarship, teaching or reference should identify Symbols of China and link to the relevant article, subject to the law that applies to the use. Linking does not require permission.

Third-party material

Museum images, archival scans, quotations, trademarks and linked resources remain subject to the source institution’s or rights holder’s terms. Their appearance or citation does not transfer ownership to this site.

Rights requests

A notice should identify the protected work, the page and material concerned, the requester’s relationship to the rights, contact details and the requested action. Good-faith concerns will be investigated and material may be temporarily restricted while ownership or permission is checked.

Contact

Send rights and permission requests to the working address on the contact page. That address must be activated before public launch.
